Any time I hear a friend or family member covet someone else's bigger house or more expensive toy, I always ask them "but how did that person pay for it? Are they really making more than you, or are they leveraged up to their tits?" That usually brings the compare and despair portion of the conversation to a halt.
I spent the past year working two jobs from home. One was a freelance writing job, the other was my consulting business. I was clear with both my boss and my clients about the situation and everyone understood I had a weird as hell schedule. I think the companies spending money on weeding out moonlighters should spend just as much time figuring out why their employees can't live on the salary and benefits plan being offered
