This is excellent. It's also why I've switched to a project-based billing system as opposed to an hourly rate. Based on the subject matter, some projects require hours of research, while a comparable one requires less. It's all based on how much I know about the subject already (or in the case of breaking news, how much the new information changes what I was working on). Instead I've come up with a value of these projects based on how they work in the over-all brand strategy for the client. Reducing my work to an hourly rate took up too much mental energy. I always felt the need to prepare a justification for the hours in case I was questioned about it. But seeing the different projects evaluated based on the broader structure is easier to communicate to clients.
